Recently, he voiced criticism against former President Trump and showed support for Capitol Police officers during Trump’s recent hush money trial in New York.

The Oscar winner was outside the New York courthouse on Tuesday, where Trump’s hush-money trial was nearing its closing stages.

He was there as part of Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, acting on behalf of the president while the campaign addressed Trump’s legal issues.

Introduced by Biden campaign’s communications director, Michael Tyler, De Niro, a strong critic of Trump, easily took on this role.

Robert recently did a voiceover for a new 30-second ad warning about the dangers of Trump returning and mentioned,

“This is my neighbourhood, downtown New York City. I grew up here and feel at home in these streets,” he said, before remarking on the strangeness of Trump being in a courtroom across the street, “because he doesn’t belong in my city”.

De Niro referenced the lessons of Memorial Day, a holiday honoring the US’s fallen military heroes.

He quoted Abraham Lincoln, saying they had died to ensure that “government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.”
