James Reyes Found Himself Caught In Sherri Papini’s Fake Abduction Plot
James Reyes is a former Costa Mesa, California, resident who worked at a local skate store.
Before Sherri married Keith Papini, she was dating James Reyes, but they separated in 2006.
Reyes and Papini reconnected in 2015 when she told Reyes that her husband, Keith, was abusive and that she needed to escape.
In 2016, Papini made a fake abduction report and stayed with Reyes for around 22 days.
Later, in June 2020, the FBI agents confirmed that the DNA found on Papini’s clothes matched Reyes’ DNA.
He was called by cops for the investigation, where he said that he had hidden Sherri in his apartment and purchased the branding equipment from a local Hobby Lobby branch.
He explained that they used prepaid phones to talk, and he picked Papini up on a rental car a friend leased for him.

James passed a polygraph test when he told the official his whole story.
His uncle Robert Dooty hired a lawyer after Papini returned home. Dooty said,
Further investigation revealed that there was no abduction, and James Reyes was not found guilty.
As per the reports, James Reyes moved out of California and stayed with his grandfather and pet dog in Arizona after the incident.
