Rosalind Eleazar Has Hand Deformity But That Doesn’t Affect Her Acting Career

Eleazar has mis-shapen fingers on one hand.

Rosalind Eleazar is a talented stage and screen actress. The British performer has a condition known as Symbrachydactyly, a birth defect that affects one hand.

However, her condition has never been the focus of her career. Many of her viewers or fans may not have noticed the anomaly because it doesn’t affect her acting much.

Highlights

  • Rosalind Eleazar has a hand deformity, a condition known as Symbrachydactyly.
  • Her fans say her disability doesn’t define her worth and she has already demonstrated her talent through various works.
  • Since beginning her career in 2015, the British actress has worked in several TV shows, movies, and theatre projects.

The gorgeous actress is best known for her roles in series like Slow Horses, Rellik, Howards End, and many others. And, she never fails to showcase her charm and talent.

Eleazar, who trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, won the 2020 Clarence Derwent Award for her role in Uncle Vanya.

The Slow Horses actress is living proof of the saying, “Our ability is what defines us, not our limitations.” Of course, there will be ableism and prejudice.

Sometimes, people will judge our skills and even our entire existence, but our worth doesn’t come from others’ opinions.

Rosalind Eleazar’s Hand Deformity Doesn’t Affect Her Successful Acting Career

Eleazar has misshapen fingers on one hand. The condition is known as Symbrachydactyly and is not genetic or inherited.

In contrast, Symbrachydactyly is caused by disruption of blood flow during the early period of fetus development. As mentioned above, her condition has not been a limiting factor in her career and life.

Also, her admirer has high respect and support for her. Several of them have expressed their views on her condition in a Reddit discussion.

It starts with talent. Got talent? If so, go get ’em! If not, go practice. I think you mentioned something about hands, but I don’t recall, I’m too focused on working with talented people.

Similarly, other online users joined the discussion, mentioning several other Hollywood actors and actresses with hand anomalies.

There are a surprising number of actors who are missing fingers, portions of fingers, etc. If you’ve got the drive, I wouldn’t let that hold you back.

Bill Nighy has one hand where his fingers are always in the same position. (Some are curled under and some are straight.) And he’s got quite a lot of wonderful roles. (In my opinion.) It doesn’t hurt to try if you really love it!

Moreover, some netizens did point out the challenges one might face due to their uniqueness.

There’s a lot of ableism in the industry so yes you will face discrimination. I’m going to guess that most of the other commenters saying you’ll be fine don’t have personal experience because any actor with a limb difference will tell you that it’s an uphill battle (even those who do manage to work a fair amount—they have to hustle harder than you realize)

Another user said, “Embrace your uniqueness and enjoy that you are different. Your attitude will exude confidence and they will pick up on That.”
