Michaela DePrince Husband Isn’t Skyler Maxey-Wert: She Hadn’t Married Yet

Michaela DePrince was a celebrated Sierra Leonean-American ballet dancer. She was born on January 6, 1995, in Kenema, Sierra Leone. 

Sadly, DePrince passed away on September 10, 2024. She was only 29 years old.

Although DePrince’s life was too brief between us, she achieved so much despite all the adversity. To put it simply, her story is remarkable.

The late ballet dancer was orphaned during the civil war in Sierra Leone after her father was k*lled and her mother passed away shortly after.

At age three, she was placed in an orphanage, where she faced significant hardships. She suffered from vitiligo and battled all the mistreatment it brought to her life.

Despite all the challenges, DePrince marched forward and made a name for herself as a talented ballet prodigy.

DePrince gained fame in 2011 after starring in the documentary First Position. It followed her journey to the Youth America Grand Prix, where she earned a scholarship to the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre.

Michaela DePrince Never Had A Husband And Was Never Married

Michaela DePrince has wowed the world with her art and toughness. Although she had a tough childhood, she did well in life. 

The late ballet dancer found joy with her new family and moved on in her life. Moreover, she made a name for herself as a ballet prodigy. 

DePrince often posted about her life on social media with all eyes on her. She never hesitated to share her personal struggles and professional success.

Over the years, DePrince wrote several books, and in one of her works, she shared small information about her boyfriend, Skyler. 

Speaking of Maxey-Wert, he danced with Dresden Semperoper Ballett in Germany, while DePrince built her career with the Dutch National Ballet. 

People in the ballet world saw them as a power couple. Their bond grew from their love for dance and their support of each other.

Michaela DePrince’s Adoptive Mother Passed Away Just A Day After Her Sudden Demise

Michaela DePrince’s family endured a heartbreaking double loss within a day. 

While they were coping with the ballet dancer’s demise, her mother, adoptive mother, Elaine DePrince, also passed away.

Unfortunately, the very next day of Michaela’s sudden demise, Elaine also passed away after a routine medical procedure. What’s more? 

Sadly, Elaine was unaware that her daughter had passed away. The demise of both women in such a brief time crushed their family members. 

Talking about Michaela’s history, after she lost her birth parents as a young child, she and her sister Mia were adopted by Elaine and Charles DePrince. 

However, they weren’t the only two; the kind-hearted couple from New Jersey sheltered nine orphans. 

Besides them, the duo were also blessed with their kids, so they raised eleven children and gave them a warm and encouraging home.

So, Michaela leaves behind her siblings, Mia, Erik, Adam, and Amie, among others. She occasionally posts about them. Moreover, she always speaks highly about her parents.
