Merritt was a maid of honor, but tragically, her lifeless body was found at Amelia and Benji’s wedding.
She decided to keep the baby, but Tag was already married. Thus, he and his wife, Greer Garrison Winbury, were the most obvious suspects.
Likewise, her pregnancy would impact the clause in their trust fund, which states that the Winbury Children would only receive funds when the youngest child turned 18.
In the initial episodes, Benji’s best friend, Shooter Dival, was suspected because his fingerprints were on her phone.
However, after several investigations, Merritt’s demise wasn’t accidental and revealed that Thomas’s wife, Abby Winbury, was responsible.
She took Merritt’s life by crushing pills into her glass juice, taking her into the water, and holding her head underwater. Her only motive for it was money.
The whole Winbury family was counting on their trust funds, and Merritt’s pregnancy threatened everyone’s plans.
Thomas threatens her to get an abortion, but a family friend, Isabel, stops her. Later, Abby decided to do the dirty work herself.
