Billy Bean ends Four-Year Marriage with his college Sweetheart to embrace his relationship with Sam!

Before his relationship with Greg, Bean went through significant turbulence. He married his college sweetheart at 24.

During this period, Bean was grappling with his sexuality and unable to embrace his true identity openly.

Despite his efforts to comply with societal expectations, he ultimately faced the truth about his homosexuality.

This realization led to the end of his marriage after four years and set him on a path toward self-acceptance.

After separating from his wife, Bean met Sam, an Austria-raised Iranian immigrant, at the gym. Initially, they kept their relationship and living arrangement secret.

They were scared to the extent that, when Bean’s teammates from the San Diego Padres visited, Sam had to hide in the car to avoid being identified as part of a gay couple.

On April 23, 1995, Sam, who was HIV-positive, collapsed at their home in Del Mar, California.

After returning home from an exhibition game against the Anaheim Angels, Bean discovered Sam’s body.

Tragically, Sam passed away the following day in hospital from cardiac arrest due to AIDS-related complications.
